Survey: Draft Learning Disability Strategy shared for feedback

People in Falkirk are being asked their views on a draft strategy for local learning disability services and support options.

The draft has been created following a series of engagement sessions held earlier this summer, which gathered views from people with learning disabilities, their families, and carers.

As well as collating thoughts about services and support options, people attending the engagement events were asked to submit a name for the new strategy and a drawing to help illustrate the plan.

The proposed five-year strategy sets the direction of the support available in the Falkirk area and aims to improve the life opportunities, wellbeing, and health of people with a learning disability.

The draft proposes 5 outcomes which will be delivered by the actions within the strategy, these are:

  • Outcome 1: There is training and awareness of learning disabilities available for staff, partners, and the public.
  • Outcome 2: People with learning disabilities have a sense of belonging and can form connections to their local community to improve their health and wellbeing.
  • Outcome 3: Carers and family members feel supported to continue in their caring role.
  • Outcome 4: Our workforce has the right skills and passion to support people with learning disabilities.
  • Outcome 5: Improved integration and partnership working across sectors, services, and teams.

A survey is open until 18 September to gather further views about the strategy, its proposed outcomes, and actions. Visit Falkirk’s engagement platform, Participate+, to complete the survey now.
