About this review
The Partnership is undertaking a series of projects to understand what support people need now and in the future. We also want to know if our services are ready to meet those needs.
A review of bedded care services in the local community is one of the projects. This includes support delivered in Falkirk Community Hospital Ward 5, Bo’ness Community Hospital Wards 1 and 2, Summerford House, Cunningham House, Burnbrae, Grahamston House, and Strathcarron Hospice.
First steps
No decisions have been made at this stage. We don’t yet have any proposals about the future of any service, how services will be delivered, or the number of beds.
The first stage of the review is to gather evidence, understand future needs, and listen to people’s views and experiences before any proposed changes are developed.
We will then publish our findings and share ideas about how services could change to meet future needs. We will run consultations on any proposals to change services before they are considered by Falkirk’s Integration Joint Board. We want you to be involved in the decision-making process and to share your views on the proposals we bring forward.

You can register your interest and help us shape upcoming engagement opportunities by completing a short form. You can also attend an upcoming information session to chat to a member of the team.

We know that making changes to services can create uncertainty. We are committed to keeping residents, families and carers informed throughout the process and ensuring everyone has an opportunity to participate before any decisions are made.
Review Timeline
When you can expect to get involved
Until 4 September, we’re asking people to register their interest and let us know how they would like to be involved. You can do this by completing the survey (online or on paper); getting in touch; or attending an in-person or virtual information session.
We are gathering information and data about the current and future health and care needs of Falkirk, exploring what kind of community bedded care services we might need.
We will publish our findings and ideas about how services could change to meet future needs. No decisions will have been made at this stage. There will be a six-week public consultation period, seeking your feedback about any proposals to change services.
The consultation period may include:
- Public survey(s)
- Focus groups
- In-person information sessions within the service(s)
- Community information sessions (for example, in local libraries and community venues)
All feedback received during the evidence gathering phase and the 6-week consultation period will be carefully considered before final proposals are developed.
We will publish our recommended proposals to change services. These recommendations will be considered by Falkirk’s Integration Joint Board, which is responsible for making decisions about local services. The Board is due to meet at the end of January 2027.

The evidence gathering phase will be complete by the end of September – when we will publish our findings and any initial proposed changes to services.
In September and October, the Partnership will run consultations and hold engagement opportunities to gather feedback on any proposals.
All of this information and feedback will be used to finalise any proposals during the winter period. Final recommendations will be presented to Falkirk’s Integration Joint Board at its January meeting, when final decisions will be made on any proposed changes.
