Falkirk Pupils inspired by Careers in Care

Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus was buzzing with energy on Wednesday 12 November as pupils from across Falkirk attended an interactive careers event designed to showcase the many opportunities within health and social care.

Hosted by Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership’s Developing Younger Workforce Forum, the event brought together teams from local services to highlight the diverse career paths available in the sector. From care homes and community support to mental health services and social work, pupils explored roles that make a real difference in people’s lives.

The day featured career talks, hands-on demonstrations, and advice on education and training pathways. Employers including Falkirk Council, NHS Forth Valley, and the Scottish Social Services Council were on hand to answer questions and share insights. Pupils learned that many care roles require no prior qualification, just compassion and a willingness to help, while others offer funded training, such as SVQs in Social Services and Healthcare, opening doors to professions like nursing, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Scott McKinnon, HR Business Partner, Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “We hope the event has inspired local young people to consider a rewarding career in care and see the difference they can make in their communities. A huge thank you to all our partners and services for creating such an engaging experience.”

The Partnership hopes to rerun similar events in the future and continues to engage with local schools to showcase careers in care at a range of school events, career fairs, and interactive workshops throughout the year.
