Bonnybridge’s Thornton Gardens Short Break Service provides respite care and short breaks for adults living with a learning disability. This allows the cared-for individual to have a break from their usual routine and carers to have time away from their caring responsibilities.
Breaks can be organised through the Short Breaks Bureau or by discussing with your allocated social worker. Breaks cannot be booked directly with Thornton Gardens.

During your stay
Guests can decide what activities they would like to participate in during their stay, with support from staff. Guests can decide to take part in as much or as little activities as they wish – so you can be a social butterfly or enjoy peace and quiet as it suits you.
Our activity coordinator visits once a week (Wednesday) and is trained in massage and aromatherapy, offering these services free-of-charge. Manicure sessions are also available.
Additional outings and activities are arranged frequently, funded independently by guests during their stay. All outings are arranged as a group, as we cannot offer a one-to-one service for external activities.
Our kitchen provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner catering to a range of dietary needs and preferences. Homemade meals are prepared at Thornton, with a variety of foods, home baking, and fresh fruits on offer.
Guests are encouraged to enjoy mealtimes together in the dining spaces, but in-room mealtimes can also be provided if preferred.
Each bedroom is equipped with a TV and wireless internet access is available throughout the home. Guests can use their own personal device, or we can provide iPads and telephones to help you keep in touch with friends and family while at Thornton. Staff will be happy to help you set up and take part in video calls if you need help.
Thornton Gardens’ registered manager is joined by 3 senior staff and a team of 13 social care workers, 2 cooks, and 2 domestic assistants. Our local activity coordinator also supports all Council-owned care homes in the Falkirk area.
