Call for entries: Dementia Friendly Falkirk logo
A community-led initiative to raise awareness of dementia and support people living in the local area is seeking entries for a new logo.
Building strong links with the local community has been at the heart of the Dementia Friendly Denny programme, which is now ready to roll out across the wider area as ‘Dementia Friendly Falkirk’.
The Dementia Friendly initiative has brought together local services, community groups, schools, and businesses to help foster a dementia friendly environment in the local area.
The Denny group has been working with local schools to offer placement and student experiences within health and social care. To expand across the wider local area, Dementia Friendly Falkirk is partnering with local schools to design a new logo and raise awareness.
Pupils are invited to enter the logo competition, with the overall winning design to be featured as the Dementia Friendly Falkirk logo, used across a range of print and digital activity.

Local councils, shops, libraries, churches, and businesses all have a role to play in creating Dementia Friendly spaces.
There are lots of ways people and organisations can make their spaces Dementia Friendly, for example a local shop could offer:
- Clear Signage: Large, easy-to-read signs and symbols with clear directions to entrances, exits, or toilets.
- Dementia-Aware Staff: Staff trained to understand dementia and to practice patience when interacting with customers who may struggle with communication or confusion.
- Quiet Hours: Quiet shopping hours can create a calm experience to make customers with dementia feel more comfortable.
- Memory-Friendly Layout: A consistent layout can make it easier for frequent shoppers with Dementia to become familiar to where items are. Subsequently reducing chances of confusion.
- Theme: The logo should reflect the ethos of Dementia Friendly Falkirk – linking to the raising awareness and understanding of Dementia in the Falkirk area.
- Symbolism: You could use symbols to represent the community, health, care, empathy, unity, awareness.
- Colours: You can use any colours you want. You might want to know that Purple is the internationally recognised colour for dementia awareness. Calming colours such as blue and pale green are also used to create a sense of calm and stability.
- Simplicity: The winning logo will be used on a range of materials and in different sizes. Complex logos with lots of text are often hard to see when they are small. The most successful logos are clear, simple, memorable, and use as little text as possible.
