Funding available to community groups marking World Suicide Prevention Day

Suicide Prevention Day Funding, apply by 19 August 2024.

Small grants of up to £500 are available to community-based groups or organisations in the Falkirk area working to promote suicide prevention & awareness in the run up to World Suicide Prevention Day on Tuesday 10th September 2024.

The theme for this years’ awareness day is “changing the narrative”, highlighting the shift needed to discuss and raise the understanding of this complex issue.

Changing the narrative requires systemic change. It’s about shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. Every conversation, no matter how small, contributes to a more supportive and understanding society. By addressing these areas and working collaboratively across sectors, we can create a more supportive and compassionate society where suicide is preventable, and everyone feels valued and understood.

Local funding has been made available from the Suicide Prevention Group, which includes representation from NHS Forth Valley, Falkirk Council, local emergency services, and community/third sector organisations.

Examples of recent activity in the Falkirk area include:

  • Suicide Prevention & Mental Health training for community group staff & volunteers.
  • Exercise classes for children & young people to bring them together to promote mental health & wellbeing.
  • Promoting and signposting local suicide prevention support.
  • Breakfast and lunch clubs.
  • Peer support groups.

Who can apply?

New or un-constituted community-based groups or organisations delivering a service in the Falkirk & District area can apply for this funding.

Because everyone can have a role to play in promoting suicide prevention, there are no specific beneficiaries for this funding. Activities can be targeted to specific demographics or open to anyone, as long as awareness for suicide prevention is being raised with an intention of changing the narrative around suicide prevention.

What can be funded?

Groups/organisations can submit one application for up to £500 to support the running costs of the activity or event you would like to organise. This could include venue cost, refreshments, vehicle hire, materials and/or other relevant support you may need. Events will be expected to have taken place on the build-up to World Suicide Prevention Day and/or the day itself.
